2019 Ford Edge ST. The six-volume mid-size fracture is part of a larger mid-sized crossover, and the reallocation of $7 million of Ford resources from sedans to SUVs. The edge design is peeled off, where the hood was pushed forward and slightly lifted. It is expected that the six will be engraved slightly (sorry), with twenty-one inch wheels that can be wrapped with Pirelli P Zero summer tires, and section 265 at all four corners and full of brake performance. Ford has just built the ultimate hot rod. 2019 Ford Edge ST is the first crossover to wear the Ford Performance Badge, previously seen on Focus Six and the Fiesta six hot hatchback. But would Ford dilute the six badge by sliding on a utility vehicle?
Ford will not announce any performance figures, so we can not say for sure whether the 2019 Ford Edge ST will offer a driving experience worthy of its high-octane badge. But given that performance is usually a low priority with family transitions like Edge, it’s not like six will have a lot of direct competition. And six will not look at least athletic, which may be all that matters to some owners. Ford has a wider mesh network, darker, side skirts, large exhaust outlets, and 21-inch model wheels. The edge itself still looks like the Ford Taurus suffers from a bad allergic reaction, though. In addition to adding a six model to the lineup, the Sport Edge has a few other notable changes for 2019.
The new safety features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-assist system Steering, and a post-collision braking system that automatically implements brakes to keep the vehicle from rolling after a crash, and assist the dodgy guidance that provides “steering input” to help the driver maneuver around slow or parked. All Edge models also come standard with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot that can support up to 10 devices, and the Sync app Apple Suite, which includes the Amazon Alexa application. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine achieves a 5 hp (250 hp) bump and a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
A medium-sized crossover will be different from a compact or subcompact, but Ford says that the focus on driving enjoyment remains consistent for this six. Certainly powertrain is recommended as much. The 2019 Ford Edge ST will get a 2.7L turbocharged double-turbocharged V-6 and found in the Ford F-150 and Fusion Sport, pushing 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque through an automatic eight-speed four-wheel drive. The sport button only has six rotary dial-shifter located in the edge activates a unique schedule, pedal throttle response, and holds gears through corners when necessary.
The “ESC Relaxation” mode can be activated on six, which according to one engineer at Ford, will “expand the window to monitor stability.” But unfortunately, a drift mode is not. Lever edges get powertrain upgrades, too. The standard 2.0-liter Equubost engine has an additional 5 horsepower, with eight-speed automatic transmission to replace the old six-speed engine.
We expect to see 2019 Ford Edge ST in the metal for the first time at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show alongside, possibly 2018 new Ford Mustang Bulit. The 2019 Ford Edge hits the showrooms this summer. Pricing for the six models and other edge will be revealed closer to the launch date.
