Honda’s luxury car division is ready to update its entire line of SUVs. Spy photos recently revealed that the new 2022 Acura MDX will finally be redesigned alongside the Type S. Both models receive the same treatment and we can expect many notable updates.
As you probably know, the 2022 Acura MDX is a mid-size SUV with an excellent reputation for longevity, minimal repair costs and strong resale. The highlight of this model is undoubtedly the hybrid powertrain, which is one of the most efficient engines on the market.
2022 Acura MDX Changes
There are a lot of changes noticeable from the 2022 Acura MDX with its predecessors. The new model is updated with the new Acura design language also found on the new RDX model. In principle, due to heavy camouflage, we can see only a few parts. First, the upcoming MDX shows off an attractive five-sided mesh that looks fresh. Jewel Eye LED headlights and roof rails are also hard to miss, which enhance MDX’s character and provide extra comfort. We just received information that the sporty hybrid versions will look almost identical to the standard version.
However, if buyers went for the Acura MDX A-Spec, buyers would get 20-inch wheels, a unique front end, larger-diameter exhaust trim and glossy black accents.
2022 Acura MDX cabin will be more spacious
There isn’t a lot of information on the cabin of the 2022 Acura MDX. We heard that this model will save more space due to the modified platform. As you know, the Acura MDX is the SUV for up to seven people. However, if you chose the captain’s second row seats, the number would be reduced to six. Whichever model you choose, you will find plenty of luxurious and soft materials. The seats offer the ultimate in comfort and good luggage space, almost comparable to the Lexus RX 350L.
The split infotainment system will still be there, with a touchscreen and hard buttons. In general, a lot of equipment can be found in the standard model. Buyers can expect a leather interior, electric and heated front seats, three-zone automatic climate control, an electric sunroof, an electric tailgate and a HomeLink garage door hatch. MDX also comes with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Siri Eyes Free integration.

The first engine to power this SUV is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. This model comes with front-wheel drive and uses a standard nine-speed automatic transmission. The second option is a 3.0-liter V6 with two electric motors, one for each rear wheel. However, the Type S brings something new and we can definitely say sporty design.
For starters, the test mule shows its web and not anything else. As we can see, the manufacturer used the same design language as the RDX. The five-pointed Acura diamond grille is still present, flanked by LED headlights and vertical air intakes. Fans and buyers can definitely expect a more aggressive design thanks to the many dark accents.
