Kia Sportage is another compact crossover one can choose if the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson or the highly popular Mazda CX-5 is insufficient for some reason. Sportage has an impressive design and is available with a turbo engine. Comfortable and high-quality interior is its strength, and the model is also equipped with a powerful infotainment system and modern safety technologies. On the other hand, thirsty powertrains and modest payload were revealed as weaknesses in the model.
Kia‘s latest crossover will not make any drastic changes. As you probably know, the 2020 Sportage is getting a lot of upgrades. For this reason, the 2022 Kia Sportage will primarily be a transportation. However, the exterior looks very fresh and luxurious. The interior can get some technical updates, but nothing matters.
Even things under the hood stay intact. As the name suggests, you can expect a lot of sporting character at this crossover. This includes a perfect interior design and some exterior features. Kia will continue to offer the latest Model S. Overall, the Sportage will once again be one of the best options in its class.
The Sportage launched the fourth generation for the 2017 model year and was recently updated for the 2020 version. With subtle exterior improvements, revised interior and equipment, the current Sportage is updated and there will be no significant upgrades for the next year. Some reports indicate that Kia Sportage could offer the hybrid powertrain that debuted in the old continent in 2022, but Kia has yet to notice whether this option will reach the United States in any form. We expect this release someday but without the diesel in the mix.

2022 Kia Sportage Engine
The operation of the 2022 Kia Sportage will have familiar engine options. The model comes with a front-wheel drive system as standard, while an all-wheel drive system is optional on all versions.
The 2.4-liter four-cylinder will run with a standard six-speed automatic transmission that produces 181 hp and 175 lb. With this engine under the hood and front-wheel drive, the Sportage will bring 23 mpg back into the city and 30 highways. The result with four-wheel drive is 22 mpg city and 26 highway.
Buyers will be able to upgrade to a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger, as well as a 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine produces 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy in this case would be around 20 mpg city and 28 highway with front-wheel drive. All-wheel power in conjunction with the turbocharger will reduce fuel economy to 19/24 mpg city / highway.
For the hybrid version, Kia has already introduced the EcoDYnamics + hybrid system to the European market. This system combines a diesel engine with a 48-volt electric motor. Kia has yet to confirm the hybrid version for the US. Expect a Hybrid Sportage somewhere in the US but with a gasoline engine instead of a diesel engine.
2022 Kia Sportage redesign
After a recent update, the Sportage has a modern design and Kia will not interfere with the appearance of the model until the next restyling. The 2022 Kia Sportage will offer new color options, while other aspects remain the same.
The latest mid-cycle update brought with it the usual upgrades including a new grille, redesigned headlights and taillights, new bumpers and exhaust trims. The headlamp pattern is derived from the Stinger Hatch model, and the model features a stylish “tiger nose” front grille. Kia also added a skid plate for the latest update, making the look even more robust. The model also offers attractive wheels of 17, 18 and 19 inches.
2022 Kia Sportage Interior, equipment
The interior of th 2022 Kia Sportage has been revised and the next edition will not bring any noticeable upgrades. The latest update has brought a new steering wheel, new air vents and an 8-inch touch screen with Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The model has also received additional safety systems for the 2020 version and all models will come with automatic emergency braking, active lane control, rear crossover warning and lane departure warnings. Blind spot monitoring will also be available, but as an option.
The base Sportage comes on 17-inch wheels with a driver information display, adjustable driver’s seat, Kia UVO infotainment platform, six speakers, said safety equipment and more.
The next in the S line will add roof rails, fog lights, 18-inch wheels, imitation leather trim, and more. The EX will use improved upholstery, unique 18-inch wheels, a hands-free tailgate, etc. There will also be options such as sunroof, leather upholstery, wireless charging, Harman Kardon audio system, navigation, ventilated seats, etc.
The SX Turbo will feature 19-inch wheels, larger brakes, sport suspension, dual exhaust configuration, etc.

2022 Kia Sportage exterior will never receive luxury
As we’ve already written, the current Sportage model has already received some positive updates. For this reason, a 2022 Kia Sportage will usually arrive as a carryover model. The new design looks flawless and more aggressive than before. Both the front and the rear, including the headlights and taillights, have been redesigned. New turn signals and fog lights are also available with the projector packages.
Remember, all of these updates are for the 2020 model year. A larger air intake, new skid plates and a new rear bumper are also available. New LED headlights are available alongside the 17-inch wheels. You can even choose 19-inch wheels, which are optional. The newest exterior paint is gunmetal. Overall, you will find a lot of sporting vibes with the new Sportage crossover.
2022 Kia Sportage gets new driver assistance features
As for the interior, the 2022 Kia Sportage will provide minor updates. It includes a number of technical updates, such as the infotainment system. In addition, the Sportage will receive several driver assistance systems. For starters, the new model comes with Driver Warning and Lane Keeping Assist.
Additionally, there’s also smart cruise control. High beam assistant is available, as is pedestrian detection and Forward Collision Assist. Plus, there will be no changes whatsoever. However, the cabin looks brand new and no further updates are required at this point.
Level “S” TRIM
2022 Kia Sportage has a new trim level. It’s an ‘S’ trim that fits the LX and EX models. It comes with a unique exterior design and a perfect interior. All three mentioned trim levels offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An 8-inch touch screen is standard. Sofino faux leather upholstery provides incredible comfort and is also standard.
If you choose the S-trim, you can choose from two powertrain options. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with direct injection generates 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. An optional 2.0-liter four-cylinder comes with a turbocharger. This unit produces 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Whichever engine you choose, you can choose between the standard front-wheel drive and the optional all-wheel drive system.
2022 Kia Sportage Price and release date
Kia‘s latest crossover starts at $ 24,000. It’s the same price as the current model. The cost of the new Kia Sportage S 2022 is about $ 26,000. Best-in-class SX Turbo costs around $ 35,000. The 2022 Sportage will hit dealerships in the second half of 2020.
