The highly anticipated 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero is nearing the end of production. It’s official and Mitsubishi will release the final version later this year. This alternative will go to Australia and possibly other parts of the world as well. However, 800 units will be sold at Down Under.
Whatever trim level you choose, Pajero offers a turbo diesel engine with more than enough power. Obviously, a hybrid powertrain was just a rumor, as Mitsuo has no plans to electrify its popular SUV. 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Design
2022 Mitsubishi Pajero will not offer an exterior restyle. It makes sense, because Mitsubishi decided to end production of its famous nameplate. This gives the Pajero minor visual upgrades and more luxury. Some things will remain, so you can easily see the Pajero’s distinctive boxy shape and sturdy design.
On the other hand, the design looks refreshed and distinctly more modern. We don’t know all the details, but the Pajero will likely use some of the cues you can find on the current Outlander SUV. Finally, the manufacturer will add an all-new hood protector, a rubber luggage liner, and several Final Edition badges.

2022 Mitsubishi Pajero interior is getting more luxurious
The interior of the 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero also gets some sort of mid-cycle update. Once again, Pajero is retired, so no major changes are needed. Instead, Mitsubishi will offer fun new touches, but most of the interior will remain. For example, Pajero now offers new floor mats, leather-wrapped service and a guide.
The Exceed trim comes with new leather upholstery, brushed aluminum pedals and a new sunroof. This is what we know so far. However, the Pajero could get more standard features and new security tools. The manufacturer will reveal more details in the coming weeks.
2022 Mitsubishi Pajero offers a turbo diesel engine
Several reports have predicted a hybrid drive for the next generation of Pajero. Unfortunately, a new generation will not come. Instead, the 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Final Edition comes with a 3.2-liter engine. It’s a four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, available in all trim levels. This engine generates 189 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. Mitsubishi offers a five-speed automatic transmission.
A hybrid powertrain could occur in the near future as production of the smaller Pajero Sport model will continue. Speculation is that the Pajero Sport will borrow a hybrid setup from the Outlander SUV. It is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that works with an electric motor. This version is said to provide up to 30 miles of all-electric range.

2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Price and Release Date
Pricing is not currently available, but the 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero will likely cost around $33,000. Like we said, 800 units will be sold in Australia and hopefully the Pajero will reach some other markets as well.
Sales will start later in 2021 or in the first quarter of 2022. The Pajero is an iconic 4WD SUV and this model has been around for 40 years. Now the Pajero Sport remains the only Pajero available. It’s a smaller variant based on the Triton/L200 pickup truck.
