2022 Nissan Sentra Review, Design, Engine, Price

You might have heard this story before: The redesigned Nissan compact sedan is trying to steal more Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic buyers. The difference is that it might work more effectively this time. Extensive testing and driving with the new 2022 Nissan Sentra show how well the automaker has improved its pressure.

The 2022 position will not dominate the sales chart, but our time with SR testers is showing where the new Nissan excels and fails against the elderly class leaders. First, let’s take a moment to celebrate the center’s progress. When we tested the last trimmed model, the 2016 SL Sentra finally reached 100 km / h in 10.0 seconds.

2022 Nissan Sentra specifications

The 2022 Nissan Sentra are about 200 pounds heavier than regular passenger cars, but the new Nissan benefits from a more powerful engine. All 2022 Nissan Sentra are powered by the I-4’s 2.0-liter naturally aspirated 149PS engine. This doesn’t sound like a great force, nor does it. But the 8060S 8.0 not only matches the main competitor, it could feel comfortable for anyone driving a 10-year-old compact sedan.

As a result, all Civic EX and above will be about a second faster to 100 km / h by 2022, thanks to a 1.5-liter turbo with a capacity of 4 liters. The Volkswagen Jetta is faster, too, using a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine to reach 60 in just 7.6 seconds.

You also think of a Corolla, right? The Corolla XSE beat our 60in in 8.2 seconds and feels refreshing like the Civic, which tested faster in the same comparison. Bear in mind that if you didn’t get a Corolla SE or XSE, Toyota would encapsulate the engine in an engine we call stiffer and less powerful.

With the Sentra, even if you don’t make it as big as the orange and black SR testers, you can still get a decent 149hp engine. Like almost all other compact sedans, the 2022 Nissan Sentra uses a CVT system. I’m usually a big fan of the CVT, which – if tuned correctly – can make boring trips a lot more livable.

Its smoothness means you don’t feel the shifting shocks you would encounter with a conventional automatic transmission. Unfortunately, the CVT 2022 Nissan Sentra tries hard to hide the fact that it only runs at 149 hp. As we noted in our First Drive review, the Sentra is a little bumpy at low speeds.

This is the tuning effect that Nissan needs to correct for 2021 or 2022, along with the curious behavior that makes a smooth stopping a bit tricky. If not, the 2022 Nissan Sentra brake pedal is tuned for travel, with a soft first sting.

Despite Sentra’s better braking performance of 60-0 at 34 meters overtaking the Civic with the 2.0 and 1.5T engines and competitors from Volkswagen, Toyota and Kia, there are asterisks here. During our review on track, test editor Chris Walton recorded ABS pulses on the pedals, generous plunge, and inconsistent performance across the four tests.

The real surprise is how the 2022 Nissan Sentra presents itself in the MotorTrend eight-pass cycle, which uniquely evaluates handling, acceleration, braking and the transitions between them. With a time of 27.0 seconds at 0.63g (average), the SR Center splits the difference between the two Civic cars, but easily beats the Corolla XSE.

“Although the body roll looks unexpectedly fun,” said test director Kim Reynolds. That will change in good faith. No matter how annoying the body role is the most on the winding road (hey mom and dad!), The Civic is a better back road partner. But we get it: Most compact sedan buyers just need a good car to get started.

Usually Nissan offers here. While we saw more body rolling compared to the Sentra launch event in early 2022, we still found the SR’s height to be adequate but steady. There is a class-to-class noise level inside the cab, which is a generation and a half better than a car outside the cab. Simply put, the new center is more elegant inside and out.

You want more than one style. When it comes to interior spaces, the 2022 Nissan Sentra rear seat is roomy enough for four, with a plush front backrest that provides a comfortable place to bend your knees. Headroom is a bit cramped, but if you regularly use a six-foot crossover around town and need the most height, try the stairs.

In terms of cargo space, the 2022 Nissan Sentra is a respectable 14.3 cubic feet, even with a roughly Jetta, 1.2 cubic feet larger than the Corolla, and 0.4 to 0.8 cubic feet smaller than the Civic. That annoying Honda matches or surpasses Nissan in fuel economy on most models. Nissan expects the Sentra S and SV to have 29/39 mpg city / highway by 2022, at a price of 28/37 mpg.

The 2022 Civic automatic transmission gets 29-32 / 37-42 mpg, depending on model. 2022 Corolla is good for 29-31 / 37-40 mpg. While Honda is still the best car in the compact segment, the Civic can’t beat Sentra’s argument for 2022. If you don’t mind losing a better Civic CVT, the Sentra offers a lot of value, especially as the SV model.

The floor-mounted SV 2022 Sentra is the same price as the Civic LX 2022, but Nissan offers a larger dashboard-top screen, Apple Car Play, Android Auto, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and hands-free access. This is a feature that you will either use or touch every day.

The picture is higher than the price ladder is more serious. Once on the Civic EX, Honda completes its compact sedan with a more powerful 1.5-liter engine and eight-way adjustable driver’s seat – the Sentra offers just six tuning options. To Centra units operate on foot.

Ignoring these comfort features, combined with the rapid response speed control in traffic, is not a problem. In essence, the Sentra 2022 is a much better car – faster, still roomy and more style than ever before.

Depending on the cut, we can see why someone is going to the center. That’s fine for now, but what happens when the wide, efficient, attractive, fun-to-drive and refined Civic is redesigned next year? Meanwhile, we can appreciate Nissan‘s dramatic dynamic increase, even if there are some strange transmission trends. Transportation hubs are performing better than they have been in past years.

2022 Nissan Sentra Price

Nissan has not released pricing information, but we hope the 2022 Nissan Sentra ranks slightly higher than the 2019 model, which starts at $ 18,815 for a base S equipped with a manual gearbox. The new center will go on sale in January 2022.
