2022 Porsche Cayenne, GTS Coupe, Full Review, Design, Engine
The 2022 Porsche Cayenne is ready for a mid-cycle refresh. The biggest change to the upcoming model will be the new coupe version. The SUV has several options to offer, but the upcoming version marks another step in the competition with other performance models. However, we can say that the German car manufacturer beats all competitors thanks to various technologies and innovations. How many performance models are there with luxury equipment and a hybrid engine?
In addition to the arrival of the 2022 Porsche Cayenne Coupe, the new model will also receive cosmetic modifications. It will be fun to choose the model that suits you (if you have a deep enough pocket). You will, of course, have to choose between the Standard and Coupe looks. Both models offer the same versions: Standard, E-Hybrid, S, Turbo and Turbo S E-Hybrid. The new version is rumored to be the GT model. We’ll see if this is true or if Porsche is in the process of an existing powertrain upgrade.
2022 Porsche Cayenne Specifications and power lines
One of the reasons why the 2022 Porsche Cayenne is so versatile and reliable is its wide range of engines. The standard model comes with a 3.0-liter V6 engine. The turbocharged engine produces 335 horsepower and 322 lb-ft of torque. The Cayenne S adds 100 hp, but the power comes from the 2.9-liter V6 and twin-turbo system. The S version produces 405 lb-ft.
As you can predict, the E-Hybrid gets power from a combination of a gasoline engine that is boosted by the electric motor. The group manages to blow out 455 horsepower and 515 pound-feet of torque. The turbocharged model comes with 540 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of V8. This is a displacement of 4.0 liters that maximizes power thanks to the twin turbo setting. Fuel economy is low, but you can’t expect more than 17 mpg combined for such an amount of power.
The most powerful setup in the range is a 4.0-liter V8, powered by two turbochargers and a 670-hp electric battery. The company doesn’t advertise fuel economy, but torque is 665 lb-ft. The new GT will not outperform this output. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine is rumored to produce 650 hp.
2022 Porsche Cayenne spy photos
The test mules show that the new version of the 2022 Porsche Cayenne will be launched. Some say it’s a GT model due to the exhaust tips. Although all models use the large distance between two tubes, we see the prototype with this closer to. It is well known in the GT line of commercial vehicles. That’s why fans believe the new Cayenne can get this version.
Other rumors say that the 2022 Porsche Cayenne GT Coupe will have a 4.0-liter engine. Engineers will fine-tune it to the configuration we find under the hood of the Lamborghini Urus, but with more power. The new Cayenne will be ready to go with 650 hp, which is 110 hp more than the current best power.
2022 Porsche Cayenne Models
Both the standard and coupe models offer the same trim levels and most options. Well, the coupe has a more aggressive appearance and less space in the back, which makes the third row of seats smaller. The show starts with Apple CarPlay, a 12-inch infotainment screen, navigation system and automatic windshield wipers. When you choose the Cayenne S, buyers get bigger wheels and a panoramic sunroof, as well as mechanical upgrades.
The 2022 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid comes with a battery under the seats. It does not affect the total area. This package also includes special accessories to make this SUV unique. A new package will improve the interior, while the steering system is also enhanced by the Sport Chrono Package and Porsche Active Suspension Management. The turbocharged version adds 21-inch wheels, air suspension and LED headlights. The Bose system gets four additional speakers compared to the base model (14 in total), while all seats are heated.
If you don’t think it could improve, check out the 2022 Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, with Porsche’s dynamic chassis control system, torque vectoring and carbon ceramic brakes. Well, we’ll see if the new GT can beat this.
2022 Porsche Cayenne release date and prices
With so many options, the 2022 Porsche Cayenne will be priced between $ 70,000 and $ 170,000. The basic unit is Caen. The S and E-Hybrid get $ 15,000 worth of upgrades, and the Turbo Edition enters the six-figure pricing world. It costs around $ 130,000 before upgrades, which is still about $ 40,000 less than the E-Hybrid Turbo S.
The release date will vary depending on the development of the new unit. According to the spy photos, the 2022 Porsche Cayenne GT should be ready soon. It’s still too early to expect big news from the German carmaker. The fourth quarter of 2020 will reveal everything about the Cayenne lineup for next season.
2022 Porsche Cayenne GTS Coupe
Porsche engineers have been spotted testing a new version of the Cayenne Coupe.
The Cayenne Coupe is, as the name suggests, a coupe-style version of the Cayenne designed to handle the high-end versions of the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé. It was introduced for 2020 and is currently available in base, S and turbo variants.
This new variant is expected to be the 2022 Porsche Cayenne GTS Coupe that fits between the S and the Turbo. It is being developed alongside the regular Cayenne GTS, and is slated to be released as a 2022 model next year.
2022 Porsche Cayenne GTS Coupe Exterior
2022 Porsche Cayenne GTS models target buyers looking for something more sporty than the S, but not quite ready to jump into something like a Turbo. Previous generations of the Cayenne introduced the GTS variants, but we haven’t seen them yet with the current third-generation model.
Visibly visible on the prototype in our spy shots are new exhaust headers positioned near the center of the rear of the facade, which engineers have attempted to conceal by attaching dummy units in the area where the Cayenne Coupe’s exhaust tips would normally be located. This is a common design theme seen in the GTS variants of the Porsche 718 and 911 sports cars.
The prototype also had enlarged brake discs, a front similar to that of the Cayenne Turbo Coupe, and a large active rear spoiler.
2022 Porsche Cayenne GTS engine
It is not clear which transmission kit was installed in the tester. A potential bet is an upgraded version of the 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 engine that was installed in the Cayenne S Coupe. There it generates 434hp, but this GTS model should have around 470hp to bridge the gap with its 541hp turbocharged.
Interestingly, there are rumors that Porsche is developing a tighter Cayenne Coupe similar to the 718 Cayman GT4 and 911 GT3. It could be the GT5, which is something Porsche has its own branding on. Although this variant is not intuitive, we can certainly count on a variant with the 670 hp Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid arriving at some point.
