2022 Subaru Ascent, Full Review New
The 2022 Subaru Ascent stands out at the showroom as the brand’s largest model, but is overshadowed by a host of other popular three-row crossovers in the US auto market.
People who appreciate Subaru’s healthy image and the ubiquitous four-wheel drive system will find something to their liking here: the seat configuration is versatile and the capacity of seven or eight is perfect for families.
Each model has driver assistance systems, including adaptive trips, automatic emergency braking, and lane maintenance assistance. The Subie’s major weaknesses are the loud engine, careless power, and unmotivated driving behavior.
The long-term example showed us just how useful it was to transport people and goods, as well as just how annoying the driver assistance system could be that beeps and bells when not stopped.
The latest climb got several new standard features for the 2022 Subaru Ascent changes. These included rotating LED lights with guide wheels and a high beam robotic.
The Touring model also adds an optional leather trim: Slate Black with silver stitching.
And as if the continuous whistling was not distracting enough, all models now feature seat belt bells designed to remind second and third row passengers to fasten seat belts.
2022 Subaru Ascent Preview
Subaru Ascent arrived in 2019, giving the Japanese car the three-row crossover it has long lacked.
As this crossover enters its third year, we expect the 2022 Subaru Ascent to be a rollover model.
There will be no change in appearance after the rise of 2022. It keeps the classic Subaru model familiar to fans.
This screen may look a little dull or outdated to some buyers, but Subaru fans are enjoying the shy design.
Inside, 2022 Subaru Ascent has over the past several years continued in the same straightforward design language as Subaru.
This includes a simple dashboard design with a large center console with tidy climate control settings, a large touch screen, and a pair of side heating vents.
The only striking feature of this relatively earthy interior are the slightly contrasting colors that give it a bit of personality.
Under the new ascent hood, continue with the same engine. This 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine delivers 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels by all-wheel power as standard.
The current ascent is the IIHS Top Safety Pick +. This rating is based on the “good” crash safety test, optional “good” LED headlights and standard “excellent” automatic emergency braking.
Climbing increases safety with standard adaptive cruise control and Active Track Control.
Buyers can choose to monitor blind spots and warnings for oncoming traffic as well. We hope that safety features and ratings will continue to change during 2022 Subaru Ascent.
This year there are more standard functions, all of which increase safety.
Standard headlamps on each trim level are now steering-sensitive LED units, while the standard EyeSight driver assistance package works to maintain lane-keeping and lane-centering for the Adaptive Navigation Control System.

2022 Subaru Ascent inside
The 2022 Subaru Ascent interior boasts all the benefits of a large crossover, with an improved driving position and a versatile seating configuration. While the cabin hosts the crowd, the third-row passenger cabin follows larger alternatives such as the Volkswagen Atlas.
It is a pity that only the top two versions are available with desired functions, such as the heated steering wheel, the heated rear seat, the driver seat with memory function, the electrically adjustable passenger seat and the upholstered leather seats.
The climb can hold up to eight people, but during our testing we only carried five handbags behind the third row.
Although it’s less than what we fit in the Traverse, Subaru also has less interior space than most of the competition. However, it is still a capable travel companion with several smart charging solutions.
This includes Velcro in the cargo area to secure the cargo floor if you need extra space.
Our test car has an optional second-row captain’s seat that uses different levers to adjust and fold roughly evenly.
Subaru’s infotainment system does not have the intuitive tuning and control settings of the major competitors. However, it does have features that consumers love, like Apple Car Play, Android Auto, and Wi-Fi hotspots.
The standard touch screen has large screen icons that are easy to see and quickly respond to.
While touch alone means more options for driver intervention, the large screen positions and icons alleviate this problem.
2022 Subaru Ascent engine
With the company’s signature four-wheel drive system, the Ascent is ideal for four-season family outings.
The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 260 cylinders and 260 horsepower provides decent acceleration and can be noisy with power but attract RVs or speedboat trailers
While Subaru continued to operate the Variable Automatic Transmission (CVT) during testing, which contributed to the tumultuous driving, the one that did not have a responsive and stable transmission was announced.
The throttle response is particularly surprising at low city speeds. The Climb also has paddle shifters on the steering wheel for those who want more transmission control.
Subaru has a comfortable ride that isolates us from rough surfaces. It uses 20-inch wheels, but it still runs smoothly off-road and absorbs hard shock.
Unfortunately, when driving on the highway, we pay attention to many wind and road noise. While the Subaru doesn’t have the driving pleasure qualities found on the Mazda CX-9, the three large enough lines are nicely arranged.
The light and precise steering responds to quick maneuvers and feels relaxed at high speeds. The brake pedal in our test car is stable and progressive, without any allergic reactions or reactions.
2022 Subaru Ascent MPG
The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that by 2022 climbing will produce 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. Those choosing the Top-Tier Limited and the Touring will lose 1 mpg in both classes.
However, the climb has an above average EPA rating, confirming the latter in our real-life 200-mile test. Best-in-class Ascent Ltd earned 26 mpg on our way, according to the EPA highway ratings.
However, competitors like Chevy Traverse and Honda Pilot have proven to be more efficient despite the low government rating.
2022 Subaru Ascent Price and release date
The base model now starts at $ 33,345, up $ 340 over the previous model year.
Despite the increase, prices remained reasonably lower than competing groups, including cars such as the VW Atlas, Ford Explorer and Chevrolet Traverse.
For example, another big competitor, the recently updated Honda Pilot 2022, starts at $ 33,370.
Subaru has yet to announce an official sale date for the 2022 Climbing. Based on the release schedules for previous years, we expect this to be in the summer of 2020.
Prices will range from $ 33,345 to $ 46,495 (including destination).
