Recently we’ve seen several re-introductions and redesigns of popular, hardcore, and off-road-ready nameplates, including the Ford Bronco, but as the latest report notes, one of America’s longest-running nameplates may be discontinued after 2021. The platform’s modern and lightweight design should bring multiple benefits to the new generation of Land Cruiser, including the implementation of modern engineering systems and a hybrid powertrain.

When it comes to the look of the model, the prototype version has not yet been spotted. Reports indicate that the new generation of Land Cruiser should come with evolutionary changes in the design. The model should adopt a bolder front end design with the new grille and headlights. It is also reported that the new version should have a length of 4950 mm, a height of 1870 mm and a width of 1980.

Available interior design details for the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser suggest that the redesigned off-road vehicle should lower the level of premium features in its new generation compared to the current model. The current Land Cruiser gets leather upholstery, four-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, heated, ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, and a heated steering wheel in the base version. The actual entry-level Land Cruiser also has plenty of tech features, including a 9-inch touch screen, navigation, wireless charging, a 14-speaker JBL audio system, etc. Safety is also a top priority, and every model relies on automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic warning, surrounding cameras and parking sensors.

The redesigned model should come with a low level of premium features used. The model should use the brand’s new entry-level infotainment system, but skip some of the safety systems. The model should also start with less expensive materials.

2022 Toyota Land Cruiser: Powertrain

The redesigned 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser will focus on its off-road capabilities and benefit from the use of the new TNGA platform. Like the upcoming Lexus LX, the upcoming Land Cruiser should get new powertrain solutions, including diesel and petrol engines, and eventually a hybrid version.

The new 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser should use a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel, likely mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol engine produced by Lexus will replace the existing V-8 engine. The new turbocharged petrol engine should also be part of the hybrid setup. A gasoline-powered Land Cruiser is likely to use an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The current Land Cruiser is based on a 4.5-liter V8 turbodiesel engine, which produces 200 kW and 650 Nm of torque. The 200 Series also uses a 227 kW, 4.6 liter V-8 petrol engine. The American model draws power from a 5.7-liter V8 that produces 381 horsepower.

2022 Toyota Land Cruiser: Edition, Price

The 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser is supposed to debut in mid-2021 and go on sale later in the year. If the reports on the low premium level in the cabin prove correct, then the model should cost significantly less than the current one.
