The 2023 BMW X4 doesn’t make much difference. The design and interior have been updated to the latest model. The Sport version of the X3 has a more attractive appearance and uses the same engines. Four-wheel drive is standard across the range for improved balance and traction. With a sloping roofline, the X4 is slicker and faster, at the expense of towing capacity. The new model could only arrive with minor cosmetic changes, such as color or feature updates in some finishes.
So the 2023 BMW X4 is now available with an even bolder front end. Changes include a larger grille paired with revised headlights. Also, the designers have updated the lights on the back. The cabin has minor changes from the previous model. For example, the sound system is better and the climate control uses three-zone air conditioning.

Equipment levels
The 2023 BMW X4 xDrive30i is an entry-level model for the range, the 2.0-liter turbo engine being the highlight of the package and delivering 248 hp. All-wheel drive is included and the axles are driven by an eight-speed automatic transmission. The system also produces 258 lb-ft of torque and works 23/29 mpg, which isn’t bad for a high-performance SUV. Some standard features make the X4 truly amazing. For example, you get a huge 10-inch screen, a 12-inch assembly, a navigation system, a panoramic roof and an electric tailgate.
M40i Deluxe Edition. However, it is not a high-performance M Performance model. In this case, the 2023 BMW X4 M40i uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder with an electric battery. The mini hybrid makes a good 382 horsepower and 370 pound-feet. Gas mileage drops to 21/26 mpg, but everything else gets better. The transmission and AWD are the same. The M40i package also offers dynamic handling, new brakes and keyless entry with remote start. Plus, the SUV is eligible for upgrades with more impressive packages.
2023 BMW X4 Optional Packages
The base version will offer the M Sport package as an option, while the same is standard for the M40i. Highlights of this package include unique body and cockpit details, as well as a special set of 19-inch wheels. The Premium package provides heating for all seats and steering wheel. In addition, a HUD is included, as well as a lumbar support. As mentioned earlier, dynamic handling is standard on the Deluxe Edition and optional for the xDrive30i. Finally, buyers can also add a parking package, which includes sensors, a 360-degree camera, and an automatic parking system.
Even the top is eligible for upgrades, although some of the above packages are included. The Driver Assistance Professional package adds adaptive cruise control, Lane Departure Warning and Forward Cross Traffic Alert. The Parking and Premium packages offer the same features as the xDrive30i. Separately, buyers can purchase full leather upholstery, ventilated seats, a wireless charger or the Harman Kardon 16-speaker premium audio system.

Competition and Alpina XD4
The most impressive version of the coupe SUV is the 2023 BMW X4 M with a retuned V6 engine. In this configuration, the powertrain generates 473 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. The adaptive sports suspension gains all that power. Power tailgate, 20-inch wheels, leather seats, navigation, Harman Kardon audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and many other features come as standard.
That’s not all. The 2023 BMW X4 raises the bar even higher. The package increases power to 503 hp and also adds more unique parts. There are thicker stabilizer bars for the suspension, a sportier exhaust and a glossy black exterior.
Another unique version available in Europe. This is the BMW Alpina XD4. The diesel engine is mated to four turbochargers to produce 380 horsepower and 570 pound-feet. Top speed is 167 mph. The SUV accelerates from 0-60 in just 4.5 seconds. Gasoline units do this faster, but no other BMWs with an oil burner can outperform them. And of course Alpina also offers special treatment inside and out, with some special parts. In the US, the only SUV available with this package is the X7.

2023 BMW X4 Competition
The 2023 BMW X4 is an SUV coupe. There are few other vehicles that will rival the Bavarian auto maker. Of course, Mercedes is the arch rival, and the model to go along with the X4 is the GLC Coupe. The Audi Q5 Sportback is not yet available in the US, but the Porsche Macan represents the Volkswagen Group. Domestic automakers are not so keen on the production of coupe SUVs. It wasn’t until Infiniti launched the QX55 crossover that it was none of the major Japanese manufacturers.
The price of those vehicles is slightly higher. Keep in mind that they are all premium models. Pricing for the 2023 BMW X4 starts at $52,000 and the M40i adds around $11,000. M Performance Upgrades kicks the MSRP off the roof, with a $75,000 base cost.
