However, the chances of a 2023 BMW X8 M are slim, as the performance version of the X7 will come a year later than the standard model. So, what are the expectations for the X8 M?
The car is about to become a coupe version of the X7, just like any other BMW SUV with even numbers in the alphanumeric name. It’s pretty obvious, but it doesn’t have to be the truth. So everything about the M badge is about performance. All M crossovers and SUVs are advanced versions of the standard model. Just take a look at the upcoming 2023 BMW X8 M closest sibling – the X6, as the X7 hasn’t introduced an M model yet. Instead, the automaker launched the Alpina-assisted version, naming it the XB7. The X8 could follow the same path, or even perform Alpina upgrades.

Under the hood of the 2023 BMW X8 M will be the most powerful version of the eight-cylinder engine from the German automaker. This is a 4.4-liter displacement with over 500 horsepower. Depending on size and configuration, the output can be as small as 615 horsepower. It is only available with the X6 M SUV if you upgrade it with the Competition package.

It’s hard to say why the company is releasing the BMW X8 M. Well, the base model hasn’t been announced yet. But it’s only a matter of time when the X8, and its performance-oriented version, will happen. This will be one of the best performing full-size SUVs on the market. The X6 is on par with some high-performance vehicles, but we’ve never seen anything this big with such high outputs. We’re assuming the Jeep Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk is a potential competitor, but the FCA said the Hellcat engine isn’t planned for the biggest SUV.
If we take a look at the arena of other German car manufacturers, it seems that only the Mercedes GLS can compete with the BMW X8 M. However, a coupe version will be required (if BMW keeps the naming tradition). There are not many SUV coupes on the market. The Porsche Cayenne is one of them, but it is still middle-class, like the Lamborghini Urus. An exotic Italian company uses the same engine as Porsche.
