2023 Citroen C4, X Full Review New

The 2023 Citroen C4 is a compact car from Citroën. Citroën C4 is a stylish and comfortable family hatchback in a modern style. The 2023 Citroen C4 is a part hatchback, part crossover, fun style, plenty of equipment, and a comfortable ride. The Citroën C4 hatchback family has been reinvented and replaces its unforgettable and mysterious looks with a modern SUV design with a dramatically sloping roofline and some intricate details. The Citroën C4 was supposed to stand out in the heavy-duty class like the Ford Focus, SEAT Leon and Volkswagen Golf, and it does.

The 2023 Citroen C4 is based on the 2008 Peugeot and Citroën C3 Aircross models, but this time they have been enlarged to give the dimensions of the Citroën C4 family cars. The car is also available in a petrol, diesel and electric model and for the first time an emission-free version bearing the Citroën e-C4 badge. The trim level is also very generous, with the entry-level Sense even having 18-inch alloy wheels, rear brake sensors, dual-zone climate control and a 10-inch touchscreen. Sense Plus adds a home screen, alarm clock and reversing camera, while Shine Plus is equipped with luxury items such as high-quality leather upholstery, heated seats and an enhanced audio system.

The luggage compartment capacity of the 2023 Citroen C4 is 380 liters, which is fully compatible with the Volkswagen Golf. By folding the rear seats down, 1,250 liters of space is freed, so the C4 again fits into the Golf despite the roofline. But the really impressive aspect is that this number remains unchanged even in the electric e-C4 version. Adding a large battery usually reduces cabin space. The Citroën can also be set to be raised to fit flat and flat luggage space or lowered directly to take up space or taller items. The 99-horsepower base gasoline tows a brake trailer weighing up to 1,000 kg, and any other engine can withstand a load of more than 200 kg, while the electric e-C4 is absolutely not suitable for traction.

C4 Interior

Inside of 2023 Citroen C4, even the cheapest plastic is embossed to give it a more attractive look, and the piano has plenty of black accents. It’s also winning mentality, as Citroën models, which have heaters built into the infotainment system, make it easier to use the new climate control dials. All decorations come with a set of small digital instruments wrapped in lots of black plastic. The screen looks rather small and is built into the dashboard, which appears to be for the flagship tech car – and we wonder if a traditional analog connection kit would be cheaper and more user-friendly. The interior of the Sense concept was boring as well, and as with previous Citroën models, there didn’t seem to be a way to brighten up the interior with color packs.

The gear levels are called Sense, Sense Plus, Shine, and Shine Plus. Even the entry-level Sense has a competitive package that includes LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, rear brake sensors, and a 10-inch touchscreen. Sense Plus adds the home screen, rearview camera, and folding door windows. The gloss trim adds features like front parking sensors, rearview mirrors, and custom LED headlights. The Shine Plus is more luxurious than you’d expect from a Citroën family hatch, with heated leather seats, a wireless charging pad and a high-quality audio system.

Engine

The 2023 Citroen C4 comes with several engine options, in addition to the electric e-C4 model, there are three petrol and two diesel models. The 1.2-liter PureTech three-cylinder gasoline engine has 100 hp, 130 hp and 155 hp, while the diesel has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 110 hp or 130 hp. 100 hp petrol and 110 hp diesel manual, while 155 hp petrol and 130 hp diesel automatic. On the 130-horsepower gasoline, you can choose the gearbox you like. Even the base gasoline provides enough speed, but the 130 hp version would be our choice. It’s economical, too, which makes diesel a little redundant if you don’t spend half your life on the highways.

2023 C4 Safety

Citroën is proud to supply the 2023 Citroen C4 with 20 drive units, which is equivalent to the number found in the larger and more expensive Citroën C5 Aircross SUV. In addition to safety features such as self-emergency braking, it may also include Highway Driver Assist, which combines flexible cruise control and lane storage technology to steer the vehicle autonomously while the driver is ready to keep their hands on the steering wheel. The Citroën C4 also evaluates how the car is being driven to check the driver’s alertness and suggests a break if he’s been driving a certain way or spending more than two hours at more than 70 mph. Cameras and sensors can detect traffic lights on the instrument display, monitor the vehicle’s blind spots, and automatically switch headlights between high beam and short beam. Despite all these features, the Citroën C4 received a four-star rating in the Euro NCAP tests and lost a high score.

2023 Citroen C4 X

The 2023 Citroen C4 X has been revealed as the latest member of the French brand’s SUV lineup, although there are no plans for an Australian launch at the moment.

As the name suggests, the 2023 Citroen C4 X slots fit between the C4 hatch-turned mini SUV for sale in Australia, and the C5 X-turned SUV headed to local beaches this year, to fill a niche in Citroën’s mid-term range. The size of the SUV in the design of the sedan “Fastback”.

Powered by the same CMP architecture as the C4, the new 2023 Citroen C4 X is essentially identical to the regular C4 right down to the rear doors—instead of a higher hatchback-style rear, the C4 X replaces a longer, traditional sedan-style trunk lid.

Citroen C4 X Exterior

With a length of 4600 mm and a width of 1800 mm, the 2023 Citroen C4 X fits between the 4,360 mm hatch of the C4/SUV and the 4,800 mm length of the C5 X, placing it in the midsize SUV segment in Australia, just a few millimeters shorter than the Toyota RAV4.

The 2023 Citroen C4 X retains the C4’s 2,670mm wheelbase, but the longer rear – also home to a subtle integrated lip spoiler and Citroën’s two-line LED lights – takes up 510 liters of luggage space, higher than the C4’s 380L.

Other design highlights include matte black rear bumpers and bodywork, large-diameter wheels and tires, and the company’s signature “Airbumps” on the doors and LED headlights.

interior

Inside, there’s a 10-inch touchscreen above the dashboard that powers Citroën’s new Citroen Drive Plus software, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, wireless updates, a ‘Hello Citroen‘ voice assistant, and eight Driver identification, and customizable tools.

A digital instrument panel is located in front of the driver and connects four USB ports, two-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, electric sunroof, mood lighting, and available Alcantara suede-like upholstery.

The Advanced Comfort front seats – with 15 mm foam and wide backrests for a “comfortable” feel – can be equipped with heating, massage and electrical adjustment on the driver’s side, while heating is available for the rear seat, windshield and steering wheel.

Citroen says there’s 39 liters of storage space in the cabin compartments alone, complemented by a panel mount on the passenger-side dashboard, various non-slip surfaces, space in the central rear armrest and document pockets in the rear of the front seats.

engine

The use of smaller CMP geometry from Peugeot and Citroën means foreign buyers have a choice of petrol, diesel or all-electric motors.

Gasoline buyers can choose a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that delivers 74 kW with a six-speed manual transmission, or 96 kW with an eight-speed automatic transmission, with or without auto-start technology, depending on the market.

A 96-kilowatt 1.5-liter turbo diesel is available with an eight-speed automatic transmission in some markets, but the main option – and the only option in some markets – is the all-electric e-2023 Citroen C4 X.

Despite being 200 mm longer than the electric e-C4, the e-C4 X uses the same 100 kW / 260 Nm front electric motor and 50 kWh battery pack, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h for two 9. 5 seconds and a top speed of 150 km/h.

But the e-C4 X’s slimmer chassis and resulting drag coefficient of 0.29 mean it has a WLTP range of 360 kilometers, 10 kilometers more than the smaller e-C4. Regenerative braking allows energy to be recovered during deceleration.

DC fast charging of up to 100 kW allows 80 percent charge in 30 minutes, or up to 10 km of additional range per minute.

Using a 7.4 kW household wall box, Citroën claims a charging time of 7.5 hours (to an unknown capacity) with single-phase power, decreasing to five hours with three-phase power and an optional 11kW built-in charger.

Under the skin, Citroen‘s Progressive Hydraulic Cushion Suspension features two hydraulic stepping stops that are used in place of mechanical stops for better shock absorption.

2023 C4 X Specs

Available advanced safety technologies include Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian, cyclist and intersection detection, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, driver attention alert and traffic sign recognition.

Other technology features include a head-up display, a 180-degree rear view camera, a 360-degree camera, keyless entry and start, automatic parking, front and rear parking sensors, and an electric parking brake.

2023 Citroen C4 X Release date

The 2023 Citroen C4 X will go on sale abroad in the coming months, and will cover Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

A Peugeot Citroen Australia spokesperson told Drive: “While there are currently no plans to bring the e-C4 X and C4 X to the Australian market, we will continue to work closely with Stellantis to explore and evaluate the potential introduction of new models to Australia.”
