2023 Kia Niro, EV Full Review New

The most attractive 2023 Kia Niro will try to grab a mid-range segment in North America this summer. As far as is known, the new model will offer many advantages over its predecessor. Officially, it will be available as a hybrid version, an all-electric hybrid. In addition to the motors, the upcoming model is said to be slightly larger than the older model, at about 2.5 inches (~6 cm).

We can also expect several improvements inside, including high-quality materials, a large 10.3-inch (~26 cm) touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. In addition, the manufacturer has also added more driver assistance functions and Niro now includes blind spot monitoring and pedestrian detection.

2023 Kia Niro Design

The exterior design of the 2023 Kia Niro is very handsome. Additionally, all versions listed are slightly larger than the older versions by about 2.5 inches (~6 cm). But none of this catches your eye like the “airplane” that appears behind the C-pillar.

This chevron-shaped panel extends from roof to roof and stands out from the rest of the body thanks to the large air intake. The new 2023 Niro certainly looks more attractive than before, and it borrows a bit from the sharp nosed of the all-electric Kia EV6 hatchback.

2023 Kia Niro Modern cabin

Inside, the upcoming 2023 Kia Niro looks more modern than ever. This crossover, due to its larger body, provides a more spacious interior. Comfort is guaranteed and the Nero has enough space to accommodate five passengers in two rows. Unlike the previous model, the new one also looks more technologically rich.

It features a 10.3 inch (~26 cm) touch screen in the center and a digital meter assembly. Kia claims that driver assistance features are better, too, and the Niro now includes blind spot monitoring and pedestrian detection as standard.

2023 Kia Niro Engine Options

As mentioned, the new Kia Niro will be available as a Hybrid Vehicle (HEV), Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), and Battery Electric Vehicle (BV). According to Kia, the all-electric vehicle is the best option with a range of 253 miles, which is slightly longer than the 239-mile range of the previous model. They also claim that the BEV will have a 201 hp motor and a 64.8 kWh battery that can charge from 10% to 80% in 45 minutes.

The standard hybrid has a powertrain of 139 horsepower and is expected to have a range of 588 miles with the combined gas and hybrid system. The plug-in hybrid HEV should be able to travel up to 53 miles on a single charge on electric power alone. Compared to its predecessor, this is an improvement of about 25%.

2023 Kia Niro price, release date

Unfortunately, at the time of writing this post, Kia has not released any information regarding the price of the new Niro model. The current crossover starts at $24,690 for the base LX model, while the LXS costs $26,090 and the LXS SE costs $27,590.

2023 Kia Niro EV

The Kia Niro 2023 made its US debut at the 2022 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS 2022) on April 13, 2022. The updates have expanded inside and out, and as now, the Niro offers a variety of alternative engines and fits the needs of a wide range of customers. . It will be available in North America in hybrid, hybrid and pure electric versions.

2023 Kia Niro EV Exterior

The 2023 Kia Niro EV has an unmistakable road presence with a bold design inspired by the Kia Habanero concept shown at the New York International Auto Show 2019. The exterior is not only largely premium, but also completely unconventional, with a strong focus on engaging young customers. . The silhouette is pretty much the same, but there is a greater degree of fringe in the back, which will be explained later in this section.

The new Niro’s tiger nose grille is thinner, sharper and noticeably wider, extending the width of the SUV. The headlights and their signature LED DRL heart rate lamps give you a confident look. The lower grille is massive, which increases its stability. Kia says the Niro uses the group’s third-generation K platform which is a clean design compared to the current 2023 Niro EV. The all-new Niro embodies the brand’s design language of ‘Contradictors United’.

On the sides, the Kia Niro 2023 has sharpened mirrors, 17-inch wheels, contrasting C-pillars and a striking gray and black bodyshell. This feature makes Nero instantly recognizable, and it’s not just an aesthetic feature. It improves airflow and improves the aerodynamics of the car. However, we would like to point out that the Hyundai Bayon, which is not available in the US, has the same style of lights. The charging port is located between the front grilles.

The rear window is angled steeper than the first generation Niro. Another notable change is the transfer of the license plate area from the bumper to the tailgate. While the first-generation model has rounded elements of the soft design, the second-generation model has the sharp lines of the bold and aggressive design, as do the rear and side windows. The drag coefficient (Cd) is 0.29, which is great for a boxy SUV.

2023 Kia Niro EV interior

Kia has made great strides in interior design over the past decade, and the 2023 Kia Niro EV is the latest example of this achievement. The design is inspired by Hyundai Motor Group’s latest frontier design language, which can also be seen in the EV6.

The Niro’s cabin follows a diet plan to save space for passengers and is aesthetically pleasing. The sleek, flowing instrument panel with its elegant eccentric curves, the aerodynamic dashboard that combines the fully digital instrument panel and the touchscreen infotainment system, the elegant center console, the electronic gear selector with disc and the luxury two-spoke steering wheel borrowed from the EV6 give the Niro an even more luxurious SUV.

Elevated armrests for front seat passengers complement the design of the new round instrument panel. Smaller switches and other physical controls complement the new minimalist interior. Kia used several environmentally friendly materials in the Niro 2023, such as recycled wallpaper (for the roof lining), Bio PU with Tencel eucalyptus leaf (for the seats) and BTX-free paint (for the door panels).

2023 Kia Niro EV Feature

A 10-inch head-up display, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital key 2 and in-cabin air purifier are some of the other notable features of Kia Niro equipment from 2023. The mood lighting bar in the cabin is a nice touch , making the cabin look like a lounge on wheels. Kia played with acoustics on the electric Niro. The vehicle features an active sound design that allows the driver to digitally alter the whine of the electric motors.

The electric crossover comes with optional Harman Kardon audio and optional heating and ventilation for the front seats. In addition, Kia offers natural voice recognition to control temperature and sound simply by saying a few commands to 2023 Kia Niro EV customers. Buyers will also get Kia Connect, the branded version of connected car features that allows owners to remotely access charge status, create route plans and view vehicle status information, among other features.

Car-To-Load (V2L) support enables bi-directional charging on the Kia Niro EV. Like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60, the Niro EV can use its battery to charge other electric vehicles, power electronics, electronic equipment, and more. However, the V2L can only be used until the battery range drops to 10%, after which the system automatically cuts off the external power. Therefore, it is wise to use two-way charging only when the battery is sufficiently charged.

2023 Kia Niro EV specifications

The full US-spec dimensions were not released at the 2022 New York International Auto Show. But we expect the numbers to be identical to the European model. The new Niro is 4420 mm (174.0 in) long, 1,825 mm (71.6 in) wide, and 1,545 mm (60.8 in) tall. Compared to the first generation, it is 65 mm (2.6 in) longer and 20 mm (0.8 in) wide. The wheelbase measures 2,720 mm (107.1 in), which is a 20 mm (0.8 in) improvement over the first-generation model.

Luggage space behind the seats is 475 liters (16.7 cu ft), 24 liters (0.5 cu ft) more than before. Including trunk volume (20 liters / 0.7 cu ft) and space freed up after the rear seats are lowered, a total of 1,392 liters (49.1 cu ft) of cargo space is available on the all-new Niro.

With the model change, Kia says the 2023 Kia Niro EV has the best passenger space in its class. It claims to have 8 cubic feet of passenger compartment space and 50 percent more cargo space than the Tesla Model 3. Full specifications for the US model should be released in the coming months.

2023 Kia Niro EV power generation

The US 2023 Kia Niro EV is powered by an electric motor tuned to generate 150 kW (201 hp). While the torque number for the US model hasn’t been revealed, it’s likely to match the European-spec Niro whose electric motor produces 255 Nm (188 lb-ft).

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in the new Niro EV takes 7.8 seconds, and the top speed of the European-spec electric SUV is 167 km/h (104 mph). Going back to US specs, the single motor is powered by a 64.8 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack which provides the manufacturer’s claimed target range of 253 miles. The vehicle is sold with an optional heat pump and battery heater to maintain range in cold weather.

The 2023 Niro EV also supports maximum DC fast charging speeds of 85 kW, which can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in less than 45 minutes. Ground clearance is set at 6.3 inches. Refer to the table below for the differences between the 2022 and 2023 Kia Niro EV models.

2023 Kia Niro EV Price and release date

Hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants of the 2023 Kia Niro EV will arrive at US dealerships in the fall of 2022. The vehicle can be purchased in all 50 states. Prices for the 2023 Kia Niro EV should start between $35,000 and $38,000.

The Niro EV competes with its cousin, the Hyundai Kona EV, which has a new face and an updated interior after a mid-cycle refresh in 2021. It also rivals the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, the problematic model that is back in production and seeking a fresh start.
