2023 Subaru Solterra EV electric motor specifications: horsepower and acceleration
The Solterra 2023 will make its US debut on November 17, 2021 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. However, Subaru unveiled the Solterra this week ahead of its world debut in Japan, where the EV crossover will be produced. At the unveiling of the car in Japan, Subaru announced Japanese specifications for the Solterra. It is likely that many of the specifications are the same as for the US version. However, some things may change, such as making all-wheel drive standard for all US models.
Like the Toyota bZ4X, the Solterra has a single electric motor for the front-wheel drive model and dual electric motors for the four-wheel drive model. The power is 201 hp for the single-engine and all-wheel drive version and 215 hp for the two-engine and all-wheel drive version.
For acceleration, the Solterra is expected to have a 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) time of 7.1 seconds for the AWD model, just like the bZ4X. If you’re hoping to get Tesla-like acceleration for your electric car, the relatively slower acceleration time may disappoint you a bit.
2023 Subaru Solterra EV Chariging
In its world debut in Japan, Subaru listed the Solterra electric range as 330 miles for the front-wheel drive model and 290 miles for the all-wheel drive model. This is interesting because that driving range is much higher than what Totoya lists for the bZ4X. Toyota claims the bZ4X has 230 miles of range for the FWD version and 200 miles of range for the AWD version.
However, the different driving ranges are likely due to differences in testing procedures. Once Solterra is released to US specs, the range numbers may change and end up being the same as the bZ4X. Also, like the bZ4X, the Solterra can be charged up to 80% in 30 minutes when using a DC fast charging station.
As mentioned earlier, the American version of the 2023 Subaru Solterra EV may have all-wheel drive as standard. This makes sense because Subaru, with its outward-facing vehicles, has all-wheel drive as standard on all of its US models. The only exception is the Subaru BRZ. The Solterra will also have “X Mode” for riding in slippery conditions and on uneven terrain, as well as “Grip Control” for more off-road mobility.
