Marketed as the everyday supercar, the 2024 Acura NSX Type R is undoubtedly comfortable and easy to operate for just about anyone to use as an everyday vehicle. Suede front lining, suede and leather seats, and a carbon-fibre-wrapped steering wheel were all options for our test car.
Younger members of our workforce were drawn to the bright red skin, but others found it tacky and childish. The seats are comfortable, but we’d like extra thigh support, and enthusiastic drivers will probably want more lateral support. The stowage compartments inside the NSX aren’t very spacious for a car advertised as an everyday supercar. The luggage compartment is located directly behind the engine, which makes it difficult to transport the Häagen-Dazs.
Furthermore, we only managed to fit one of our handbags into the small bag. Standard equipment includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with built-in navigation and an ELS Studio sound system with nine speakers.
Like some of the other internal components, the touchscreen system comes from cheaper Acuras and Honda, and the same criticism we’d give them applies here as well. The system UI looks really old and we thought the menu system was poorly designed. The touch-sensitive volume slider makes it difficult to make subtle changes, and the lack of extra buttons only makes matters worse.
2024 Acura NSX Type R Engine performance
While the 2024 Acura NSX Type R will satiate your thirst for speed, it can’t keep up with some of its main competitors, such as the Audi R8 or McLaren 570S. In our tests, it kept accelerating fast and was able to sprint in 3.1 seconds from zero to 60 mph. But it has discretion, something none of its competitors have, thanks to the electric-only silent mode.
A twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 and three electric motors are combined into the NSX’s plug-in hybrid electric motor to produce 573 horsepower. The rear wheels are powered by a combination of V-6, nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and one of the electric motors. Steering feels light, direct, and precise in Quiet and Sport modes, which we think is an attempt to make the NSX look stylish on a daily basis. However, this design seems inappropriate for a vehicle focused on performance. Electric power steering adds weight in Sport Plus and Track modes.
No matter the setup, the steering is precise and the car responds intelligently to even the smallest input from the driver. The NSX is another example of how hybrids can perform better in gasoline-only urban stop-and-go traffic.
The Audi R8 V-10 is surpassed by this car’s EPA rating of 21 mpg city with 7 mpg. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4S has a city mileage of 21 mpg, which is the equivalent of an NSX, and a highway mileage of 28 mpg, while the NSX has a highway mileage of 22 mpg. In a real-world highway fuel economy test, the NSX achieved a respectable 23 mpg, slightly better than the EPA rating, but not nearly as good as its non-hybrid competitors.

The Audi R8 V-10 can’t match the EPA’s 21 mpg city rating. While the NSX and Porsche 911 Carrera 4S get 21 mpg in the city, the former gets 28 mpg on the highway, and the latter only gets 22 mpg.
