2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid
The Audi Q5, the German automaker’s best-selling model in the world, will undergo a major overhaul in 2023 to enter its third generation. The 2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid will likely be part of the variants available at launch. Here’s everything we know so far about the next generation Q5.
2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid Design Features
The third generation of the 2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid will bring much larger design changes than the second generation model. This is what spy photos (seen on Auto Express) captured for the first production body-wearing test mules and suggests several design cues. The proportions will be quite similar, but the foreground and background may be more striking in the next generation.
A shorter octagonal monocoque frame, slimmer and more technical-looking headlights, a larger lower air intake and side air intakes give the 2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid a new, confident feel at the front. At the rear, the all-new Q5 is likely to take on a more impressive look with slimmer taillights and a narrow, full-width light band that runs between them, accentuating the SUV’s width, as well as the redesigned grille.
Inside, Audi designers can reduce the number of physical controls and increase digitization. Expect a new 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with many new/improved connectivity features.
According to an Autocar report released on May 19, 2022, the upgraded version of the MLB platform will enable the Audi Q5 to support Level 2 autonomous driving features. Our guess is that the list could include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as Lane Departure Warning, Dynamic Assisted Cruise Control Radar, autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, satellite navigation-based cornering speed control, etc. L2 autonomous driving requires hands at the wheel with the full attention of the driver and should not be misinterpreted as fully autonomous driving.

The 2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid will likely rest on an upgraded version of the current model’s MLB evo platform. Among other improvements, the updated platform should include support for all-wheel steering (rear axle steering), according to an Autocar report. At lower speeds, the rear wheels rotate in the opposite direction and reduce the turning circle, while at higher speeds, the rear wheels rotate in the same direction as the front wheels and provide more stability.
Most of the next generation Q5 petrol and diesel engines can be equipped with 48V mild hybrid technology. Even the SQ5 could come with an electric this time around, even if it’s just a mild hybrid. The RS Q5 never materialized, and with the RS Q6 e-tron planned for performance enthusiasts in this segment, we don’t see it coming in the third generation either.
Audi will likely offer a 2.0-liter petrol engine with a plug-in hybrid system, which should also be available in the US. The current model offers a range of just 62 km/39 miles on the WLTP cycle, and even less, only 23 miles on the EPA test mode. For the next-generation Q5 PHEV, Audi can aim for a WLTP range closer to 100 km/62 mi and an EPA estimate. Range of about 35 miles.
The engines used in the next generation of the Audi Q5, including mild hybrid variants and plug-in hybrids, will be more efficient and environmentally friendly. The company wants to make sure it’s future-proof and ready to meet Euro 7 emissions standards. According to an Autocar report, the 2.0-liter EA888 engine, which we expect to be under the plug-in hybrid hood, will get a regenerative fuel injection system and new particulate filters.
