The current 2024 BMW X2 resembles a sibling from a different mother within the Bavarian automaker’s lineup. Munich’s smallest crossover will soon receive a new generation, and the first spy photos of pre-production prototypes indicate a significant change in the design language. In addition, the new X2’s dimensions will expand slightly, and its side profile will resemble that of the larger X4.
2024 BMW X2 Exterior
Larger grilles, a more aggressive bumper, and headlights with double C-shaped LED daytime running lights – that’s a brief description of what’s concealed beneath the prototypes’ camouflage. The front fenders appear more robust and can likely accommodate larger wheels than before. The wider side skirts and higher beltline create a more robust appearance, similar to that of the larger X4 and X6. As an aside, the new X4 could be discontinued following the current generation.
We believe that the 2024 BMW X2 will utilize the FAAR platform. This is likely the last generation of the compact crossover-coupe to receive a variety of combustion engines, and it will likely include the usual assortment of BMW three- and four-cylinder gasoline and diesel turbo engines, albeit in an electrified configuration. Our spies spotted a prototype on the Nurburgring testing a hotter M35i model with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing approximately 300 horsepower (220 kilowatts).
While this image depicts the next-generation X2 in a nearly finalized state, we do not anticipate its release this year. According to our sources, the model will not be available in the United States until the third quarter of the following year, making it a 2024 model.

2024 BMW X2 Interior
The interior design should match the interior of the new X1, as well as the interior of the most recent 2-Series Active Tourer exported abroad. No longer is there a conventional hood over the instrument cluster. Instead, the instrument cluster is a floating screen that is joined by a second display for the infotainment system. A small knob incorporated into an extension of the center armrest has also replaced the conventional upright gear lever.
Performance
The 2024 BMW X2 is currently offered in the U.S. as the X2 xDrive28i and X2 M35i, both of which are powered by 2.0-liter turbo-4 engines producing 228 and 302 horsepower, respectively. Expect the same performance levels from the new X2, but perhaps with a slight increase in horsepower. The new X1 xDrive28i is confirmed to have 241 horsepower. It is also confirmed to have a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, both of which are expected to appear on the new X2.
Overseas, the current X2 is available in xDrive25e plug-in hybrid trim, but the jury is still out on whether the new X2 will offer this option. It is also unclear whether an electric iX2 will be produced, although the new X1 has spawned an electric iX1 with 308 horsepower and a 250-mile range. The electric X1 has not yet been confirmed for sale in the United States.

2024 BMW X2 Price and Publication
Reportedly, BMW has already ceased production of the current X2 model. This would indicate that the luxury brand will prioritize the new model and begin production on it as soon as possible. However, we have no information regarding when the next generation X2 will be released.
Current BMW X2 pricing begins at $37,590 including destination. Depending on the extent of the upgrades, it is reasonable to assume that the 2024 X2 will be slightly more expensive than the current model. As a compact luxury SUV, the X2 competes with the Acura RDX, Genesis GV70, Lexus NX, and Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class.
