The XC90 offers a refined and nimble driving experience, with responsive handling, a comfortable ride, and outstanding off-road capability. The XC90 provides a variety of driving modes, including Comfort, Dynamic, Eco, Off-Road, and Individual, which can adjust the throttle response, transmission shift points, suspension settings, and traction control settings based on the driving conditions.
Turbocharged
The base turbocharged four-cylinder engine with front-wheel drive achieves 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the freeway, while the same engine with all-wheel drive achieves 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Both outputs of the turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder engine are rated at 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the interstate. Combined, the plug-in hybrid system achieves 55 MPGe.
In 2024, however, the XC90 could receive a new electric option dubbed the Embla. The Embla could be a part of Volvo‘s ambitious plan to introduce seven new electric vehicles, including two SUVs, by 2027. The Embla could provide greater torque and instant acceleration, as well as greater fuel efficiency and reduced emissions than conventional engines. Additionally, the Embla could have a range of over 300 miles per charge and support rapid charging technology.
2024 Volvo XC90 Release Date
The 2024 Volvo XC90 is anticipated to go on sale by the end of 2023 or the start of 2024. We estimate that the XC90 will range in price from approximately $50,000 for the Momentum trim to approximately $70,000 for the Excellence trim. Volvo has not yet provided official pricing information.
