Mazda 3 2025: Innovative Design and Performance

Mazda 3 2025. The Japanese automaker has been recognized for decades as a sportier option to similarly priced Hondas and Toyotas (insert cliched “zoom-zoom” tagline here), but it has recently been attempting to establish a new brand identity. Mazda intends to compete with Lexus and Acura based on its product strategy over the past five years and the development of a rear-drive hybrid inline-six platform for the upcoming Mazda 6 and two new SUVs.

But what about the present roster? With the optional turbocharged engine, AWD, and Premium Plus package, our 2025 Mazda 3 test vehicle clocked in at a segment-high $34,115, which was more than $10K pricier than the standard Honda Civic and within $3,000 of the BMW 228i Gran Coupe. Hence, the debate arises as to whether a fully-equipped Mazda 3 is a genuine luxury option or a cheap compact with a few more frills.

Mazda 3 2025 Exterior

The 2025 Mazda 3 sedan and hatchback retain the same KODO design language as their predecessors. In general, they have a more edgy and elegant appearance with a bolder design. However, their dimensions differ, with the sedan being 183.5 inches and the hatch measuring 175.6 inches.

Clearly, the hatchback variant is more garage-friendly and one of the most elegant in its class. This model is more divisive than the sedan variant, and it comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels that are more stylish.

Mazda 3 2025 Interior Design

The inside of the 2025 Mazda 3 is everything but conventional. This stylish automobile features a roomy cabin with comfy seating. The hatchback variant of the Mazda3 has more than 20 cubic feet of trunk space, while the sedan version provides approximately 13 cubic feet. But, thanks to 60/40-split rear seats, the rear seats of both models may be folded flat to create more space.

Also, there are other modification options available, allowing you to create your own unique interior. Similar to before, the base model is equipped with supportive fabric seats and includes softer-touch materials. Mazda also includes a sleek 8.8-inch display screen, audio, navigation, two USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, and more as standard equipment. The Turbo model is further equipped. Leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, head-up display, power moonroof, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and leatherette upholstery are included.

Mazda 3 2025 Safety

The Mazda 3’s safety features are more advanced than ever before, and include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Mazda 3 2025 Engines

Under the hood of the new 2025 Mazda 3, three different four-cylinder engines are available. The standard sedan is still equipped with a 2.0-liter engine producing 155 horsepower and front-wheel drive exclusively. Upscale, the manufacturer offers an optional 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 186 horsepower and all-wheel drive.

The most popular and potent engine is a new turbocharged 2.5-liter that produces 250 horsepower. There is a six-speed manual transmission available, but only with front-wheel drive. Included with the all-wheel-drive system is a six-speed automatic transmission.

Mazda 3 2025 Release Date And Price

Similar to its predecessor, the 2025 Mazda 3 will sport an attractive design language and increased standard equipment across all trim levels. Mazda just announced that a revised model will be released later this year at the same price.

The current sedan starts at $20,500 plus $945 for destination, while the hatchback starts at $22,500. The price of the AWD-equipped Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo with all-wheel drive is slightly less than $30,000.

Mazda 3 2025 Updates

The Mazda 3 hatchback and sedan models of the 2025 model year will receive several improvements over the previous generation. Last year, Mazda debuted a potent turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to its lineup, as you are surely aware. In addition, the base model retains the 2.0-liter normally aspirated four-cylinder engine.

Nonetheless, Mazda will introduce extra features between model levels until 2025. For example, the base model now comes standard with navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and an excellent 12-speaker Bose sound system. Sedans and hatchbacks typically have supportive seats and comfortable passenger configurations.

Mazda 3 Performance

This particular Mazda 3 is not your typical front-drive compact vehicle with a sluggish four-cylinder engine. The optional 2.5-liter turbo inline-four engine produces 227 hp (or 250 hp on premium fuel) and 310 lb-ft of torque, which are the highest in the compact market outside of the Honda Civic Type R and the Subaru WRX.

Here are the statistics: 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds and a quarter mile at 94.6 mph in 14.8 seconds. When we tested an AWD Mazda 3 with the standard naturally aspirated four-cylinder producing 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft, it hit 60 mph in 8.1 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 16.2 seconds. (In comparison, it took our long-term BMW 228i Gran Coupe 6.0 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour.) It took 120 feet and 122 feet, respectively, for the Mazda 3 turbo to come to a complete stop from 60 to 0 miles per hour. Yet, the new Honda Civic Si accelerates from 0 to zero miles per hour in only 110 feet.

Mazda 3 Turbo

On the road, this Mazda 3 offers a more sophisticated and mature driving experience than you’d anticipate from a vehicle in this class. The turbo-abundant four’s torque delivers ample thrust when the accelerator pedal is depressed in the latter half of its journey, and the early peak torque disguises the aged six-speed automated transmission’s lack of gears compared to some of its competitors. Moreover, the engine’s noise, vibration, and harshness levels are superior than those of certain entry-level luxury vehicles.

The steering is substantial and precise, with a touch of feel. In this regard, Mazda‘s sporting heritage shows through. The 3’s ride quality is firmer than that of a more relaxed compact such as the Hyundai Elantra, but this is compensated for by its excellent body control and steady handling. The platform feels rock-solid through turns and is eager to keep up on a winding two-lane road. We also had the opportunity to drive in snow and ice; the AWD system shifted torque forward and backward to keep the Mazda aimed straight and the driver calm. The traction control system drastically restricts power, but you can disable it and have some fun.

Despite this, Mazda‘s driver assistance system is not nearly as helpful as those of Honda, Hyundai, Kia, or Toyota. The lane centering feature is hardly activated, and the adaptive cruise control sometimes exhibits odd braking behavior. If you seek a vehicle with sophisticated active safety measures that reduce strain on the highway, the Mazda 3 is not for you.

Mazda 3 Design Excellence

With a dash-to-axle distance that better conceals its FWD underpinnings than rivals like the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, the Mazda 3 appears to be the most costly vehicle in the compact class. Its LED headlights and taillights are unmistakably high-end, and the way the turn signals blink on strong and fade slowly is reminiscent of an Audi.

The inside arrangement of the 2025 Mazda 3 is basic without feeling cheap, and there are no fiddly touch buttons; climate control and volume knobs feel expensive, which is a significant advantage. This is how elegance and refinement can feel in a reasonably affordable automobile. With the exception of the cupholders, which aren’t perfect for higher beverages, the materials and construction quality feel fantastic, and the ergonomics are superb.

Infotainment

Some staff members experienced faults with the infotainment system (it can take a few too many steps to locate simple functions like as a radio tuner), but in many aspects, it resembles an older BMW iDrive system that has been improved. Mazda‘s choice of a rotary infotainment controller as opposed to a touchscreen enables the standard 8.8-inch infotainment display to be situated high on the dashboard, allowing drivers to keep their peripheral vision on the road while picking a podcast or adding a fueling station to the navigation route.

It does not mean, however, that the inside does not lack a few luxuries considering its over $35,000 price tag. Even when fully equipped, the Mazda 3 lacks cooled seats, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto wireless connectivity, rear temperature control vents, and a wireless charging pad, all of which are available on lower-priced competitors. In addition, the Mazda‘s rear seat is the most cramped in the market. Six-footers will bump their heads on the headliner, and sharp hits will be difficult on the spine.

Mazda 3 Conclusion

Mazda 3 2025. The turbocharged and fully-equipped 2025 Mazda 3 is not for everyone. The rear seat is incredibly cramped and poorly furnished, its driver-assistance technology lags far behind the competition, and some may not appreciate the infotainment system’s oftentimes confusing layout. There are also rivals with additional features. Nevertheless, would we choose it over an entry-level luxury car such as the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe? In an instant.
